Special Envoy on Innovative Finance and Sustainable Investme

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Hiro Mizuno of Japan as Special Envoy on Innovative Finance and Sustainable Investment.
Mr. Mizuno is a Japanese financial executive and former Chief Management Officer and CIO of the Government of Japan Pension Investment Fund.
Today, the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting societies and economies at their core. And the Special Envoy will support the Secretary-General's advocacy and engagement in global public-private dialogue to encourage action in new and unprecedented ways to guide public and private investments towards the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
As highlighted through the Financing for Development Initiative in the Era of COVID-19 (FDI), it is vital to increase the pool of sustainable financing, with particular attention to removing barriers to blended finance and other innovative financial instruments.
About Mr. Hiro Mizuno
Mr. Hiro Mizuno has held numerous positions in finance, both in the public and private sectors.
He is a founding member of the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative and was also a member of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance convened by the Secretary General. He currently serves on the Board of the Responsible Investment Principles Association.
Mr. Mizuno has served as Advisor to the Office of the President of the University of Tokyo and Executive Fellow of Harvard Business School, Harvard University and Visiting Fellow of Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and member of the board of Oxford Global Leadership. Said Business School, University of Oxford.
Mizuno received the “Outstanding Individual Contribution” award at Responsible Investor, Innovation and Industry Leadership 2017.
Mr. Mizuno holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a law degree from Osaka City University, Japan.
